The heart of the work, Part II, an alphabetical listing of the officers, runs to some 60,000 entries. Each entry contains a brief paragraph on the officer giving his state or country where born, state from which originally appointed, date of induction, rank, date of discharge, promotions, medals, battles participated in, and, in about a fifth of the entries, date of death after leaving the Army.

"Barn lærte det gotiske alfabetet og den gotiske håndskrift på skolen i Norge frem til ca. 1860. Gotisk skrift

Deretter gikk man over til det latinske alfabetet, som er det samme som vi bruker i håndskrift i dag. Selv om man sluttet med det gotiske alfabetet i skolen rundt midten av 1800-tallet, fortsatte mange å skrive gotisk håndskrift så lenge de levde.

Dette betyr at frem til et lite stykke ut på 1900-tallet kan det fremdeles være enkelte rester av den gotiske håndskriften i historiske kilder. I praksis betyr dette at enten man skal lese gjennom kirkebøker på jakt etter forfedre eller vil lese i gamle tinglyste dokumenter som omhandler eiendom, f.eks. skjøter og utskiftninger, så støter man fort på gotisk skrift."

Many of you have offered to help us as we work on Family Tree Maker 2008. We appreciate your willingness. The files, trees, comments, and suggestions submitted so far are very helpful. Thank you! If you are interested in continuing that help by testing the upcoming patch, please let me know.

A quick survey has been set-up to help categorize and sign-up volunteers. If you are interested in testing the update, please fill out the survey. We will likely be taking a dozen or so volunteers. As people are selected for the group, they will be contacted by email with further instructions.

Old Sad News from AOLt

Sad News: "Jenna has given me the sad news that AOL no longer will have a CL program, but I will NOT give up! I am visiting HOST RL Wohlford and his buddy Rhianan in Vermont this week and he has promised to take me to Gettysburg Pennsylvania before I move on to visit another friend.

My journal will be moving this week to Jenna's play name and I hope that you will all continue to invite me to your homes for a visit.

Since the HOST/LDRS names will no longer be around, please send your new screen name to Jenna at 'Jenna JLR' with the subject 'Happy Trails' so she knows it's for me. Also, please make sure you clicked the little button on this journal to be alerted for any new posts so that you know where to find me as we move my stuff. The Western Australian Post Office Directories

The Western Australian Post Office Directories: "were published by H. Pierssené and then by H. Wise & Co. are an invaluable source of information for anyone who is doing family history or research on Western Australia during the period 1893-1949. The post office directories provide information by locality, individual surname, government service, and by trade or profession.

The different sections enable the enquirer to see at a glance the householders or businesses in any one town; the address of any householder or business in the State; and the businesses or individuals throughout Western Australia engaged in any trade or profession. The annual tables of contents provide links to each page. While it is not possible to do a text search on the directories, finding listings by localities, surnames, etc., is easy using the contents pages.

The complete set of Western Australia post office directories have been made available online with funding from the Friends of Battye Library Maude Sholl Bequest and the Bizzaca Family."
